2013 was an incredible year for ProfitBricks.trends

As John F. Kennedy once said, “You can’t know where you are going until you know where you have been.”

Let’s take a look back at some highlights from 2013 in the life of ProfitBricks:

January – ProfitBricks Referral Partner Program launched

ProfitBricks launched its Referral Program, aimed at developers, IT consultants, system integrators, independent software vendors and even well-connected technology influencers looking for recurring revenue streams from a next-generation cloud provider.

February – Pete Johnson joined ProfitBricks as Cloud Platform Evangelist

After a 19-year career with HP that included a 6-year stint running Enterprise Architecture for, as well as being a founding member of HP’s public cloud efforts, Pete Johnson joined ProfitBricks in February 2013 as Senior Director of Platform Evangelism and leads our efforts to raise awareness of Cloud Computing 2.0 from ProfitBricks.

March – Funding announcement

ProfitBricks secured a new round of investment totaling $19.5 million from its founders and United Internet AG (UTDI.DE), a leading European internet services provider, to expand next-generation cloud offerings.

Through this most recent investment, ProfitBricks will further drive its development of the world’s first true virtual datacenter and power adoption of its cloud infrastructure into new vertical markets. Founded in 2010, ProfitBricks had previously received $18.8 million from its founders and United Internet AG.

April – Larger Instance sizes

ProfitBricks announced general availability of the industry’s largest virtual server instance sizes, enabling customers to run true High Performance Computing environments in the cloud for the first time.

By offering variable instance sizes, which now tip the scales at 62 cores and 240GB of RAM, ProfitBricks continued to define Cloud Computing 2.0. ProfitBricks customers can now run massive computational processes at a lower cost while taking advantage of better speed and performance. It also enabled users of databases and big data software to scale their virtual servers vertically rather than horizontally.

May – High availability becomes standard; Finalist at MIT Innovation Showcase

ProfitBricks launched configuration free, high availability virtual network support via industry’s first support for ARP. This new feature enabled an easy-to-use implementation and offers dynamic routing of IPv4 addresses to virtual machines (VMs) through the industry’s first support of Address Resolution Protocol (ARP).

The 10th Annual MIT Sloan CIO Symposium announced ProfitBricks as one of ten finalists for the 2013 Innovation Showcase as its industry’s first, true virtual datacenter represented a cutting edge B2B solution that combineed strong value and innovation to enterprise IT. ProfitBricks received key exposure to many of the world’s most creative and influential IT executives at the Symposium on May 22, 2013.

July – Updated performance report – ProfitBricks is fastest public cloud

Analysts at third-party Cloud Computing research firm Cloud Spectator examined the three primary bottlenecks that affect cloud server performance (Processing Unit (CPU) performance, Disk performance, Internal Network performance) and compared these among Amazon EC2, Rackspace Cloud, and ProfitBricks — three Cloud Computing IaaS providers — in a variety of performance tests.

August – Price/Performance leadership; ProfitBricks named to Talkin’ Cloud’s Top 100 CSPs

ProfitBricks’ pricing and performance offered a major step toward broader public Cloud enterprise adoption, cutting prices in half and making it the cloud computing price/performance leader among IaaS vendors. With this price drop ProfitBricks’ instance prices became 43% TO 80% percent lower than the other major cloud computing providers, while still offering twice the speed and performance.

The new pricing model, outlined in detail on ProfitBricks’ website and also detailed in a white paper titled “The Secret World of IaaS Pricing: How to compare apples and oranges among cloud providers,” set cloud pricing on the path for full adoption by the enterprise. September – ProfitBricks named Emerging Technology Vendor by CRN

ProfitBricks announced that it was named one of CRN Magazine’s Emerging Technology Vendors.

The annual CRN Emerging Technology Vendors list highlighted ProfitBricks and other hot tech startups making an impact on the channel and in the enterprise. Vendors on this list had recently introduced a new product or technology that is not only innovative, but generates the high margins solution providers require in today’s competitive marketplace.

October – ProfitBricks named one of 20 Most Promising Cloud Companies by CIO Review

CIO Review identified 20 organizations that have helped enterprises move to the cloud and developing products and services to make this move seamless. A distinguished panel comprising of CEOs, CIOs, VCs, analysts including the CIO Review board scrutinized several companies and finalized the list of ’20 Most Promising Cloud Computing Companies.’

November – ProfitBricks attends Cloud Channel Summit and exhibits at Cloud Expo West

November was a busy month for Team ProfitBricks. Not only did we attend Cloud Channel Summit (#CCS13), a gathering of cloud-interested channel partners to meet/establish new relationships and share industry best practices, we also exhibited at Cloud Expo West 2014 (#CloudExpo), one of the industry’s “go-to” events.
